Details
WeRead is Tencent's reading app, stocked mainly with published books — fiction, history, business, science and more. A sizeable share of the catalogue is free to read; the rest unlocks through a membership card or single-book purchase. Its social mechanics are built into reading itself: you can gift books from your shelf to friends, team up to earn reading time, and see friends' reviews and highlights, with notes exportable. Apps cover phones, tablets, e-readers and the web, with progress synced in the cloud. We shelve it beside the classics in our leisure group because it is a common way to read public-domain books and edited editions of the classics. Listing notes: the free/paid line is set by the operator and shifts with campaigns — check the in-app labels; and if you start a membership, remember to switch off auto-renewal when you no longer need it.
Who it's for
People who want to read published books for free and enjoy gifting and recommending books among friends; readers of public-domain classics.
18btc Crypto Tools Navigator · Our Take
“Listing notes: work the free catalogue and the gifting system first — friends swapping books covers more titles than you'd expect, and membership can wait until you read daily. Its highlights and review sections are genuinely good; reading a classic along the top-voted highlights saves effort.”
