Details
Shidian Guji is a free, open platform for digitised Chinese classics. It puts large numbers of ancient books online in two forms — facsimile images of the original editions and newly punctuated, edited texts — and lets you read them side by side. You can search by book title, chapter and content, and the presentation keeps traditional vertical typesetting where it can. Built with universities and public-interest support, its aim is to let ordinary readers open books that used to require a library rare-book room. How it differs from this site's built-in classics selection: ours is a curated set of famous poems and texts with small games attached, while Shidian Guji is a full-scale library across the classics, histories, philosophy and literature divisions — the place to read a whole book. Listing notes: the copyright status of edited editions varies by book; reading on the platform is free, but check each book's notice before quoting or reprinting, and some features require an account.
Who it's for
Students and readers of classical Chinese who need original texts; anyone checking a passage against the original book for coursework.
18btc Crypto Tools Navigator · Our Take
“Listing notes: search the title here before hunting for scanned PDFs of doubtful quality — reading the facsimile online is cleaner. Reading facsimile and edited text against each other is also the fastest way to learn variant characters and edition differences.”
