Substack is a platform for independent writing and subscription publishing: starting a publication is free, and each post becomes both a web page and an email that subscribers read in their inbox. Readers subscribe free or paid, and writers choose which posts are open and which are for paying readers only. Substack provides the editor, list management and payments, and takes a 10% fee on paid subscription revenue (payment processing fees are separate); writers can export their subscriber email list and take it with them if they leave. It is heavily used in overseas tech, finance and commentary circles, where many well-known writers make it their home base. Listing notes: content is predominantly English; as a reader, sample the free posts before paying for anything, and do not rush into annual plans.
