Details
Linux is a family of open-source operating systems: the kernel, started by Linus Torvalds and maintained by developers worldwide, is public code and free to use; on top of it, distributions such as Ubuntu, Debian, Fedora and Linux Mint package complete installable systems, most of them free downloads too. Our link, linux.org, is the community portal — distribution introductions, beginner tutorials and forums — a good place to work out how distributions differ before picking one. Listing notes: Linux is not a single product and has no central support desk; installing and troubleshooting lean on distribution docs and the community. Game and professional-software compatibility varies by distribution and hardware; reviving old PCs, servers and dev environments are its safest home turf.
Who it's for
Anyone reviving an old computer with a free system; students and developers who need a Linux environment to learn programming or ops.
18btc Crypto Tools Navigator · Our Take
“Listing notes: beginners, skip the 'which distro is best' debate — start with a friendly one like Linux Mint or Ubuntu and switch after three months if you like. When stuck, search the distro's official docs and forums first; most pits already have footprints.”
