Details
Umami is an open-source web and product analytics platform (MIT, about 40k GitHub stars, still updated on the day we checked, 2026-11-03), positioned as a lightweight Google Analytics alternative: add one tracking snippet to your site and you can see traffic, acquisition sources, top pages, visitor journeys, conversion funnels and retention. It uses no cookies and collects no personal data, so most sites can drop the cookie-consent banner entirely, and it fits privacy regimes like GDPR by design. Two ways to run it: self-host the free open-source version on a server with Node.js and a PostgreSQL/MySQL database, or use the official Umami Cloud with zero deployment (the cloud is the project's commercial service — check its site for the current free and paid tiers). Your data stays in your hands and is never packaged for advertisers, which is exactly why many independent site owners migrate from GA.
Who it's for
Site owners and indie developers who want to know where traffic comes from and where users drop off, without a bloated analytics suite or a cookie banner.
18btc Crypto Tools Navigator · Our Take
“The self-hosted version is genuinely free and open source — a small server of your own is plenty; if you hate ops, take the cloud. Either way it is far lighter and cleaner than GA.”
