Handy — Offline Speech to Text
Free, open-source offline speech to text: hold a shortcut, speak, and the text lands in any text field.
Visit tool →Details
Handy is a free, open-source desktop speech-to-text app (MIT licence) built around offline use and privacy: hold a custom shortcut, speak, release, and the transcription is pasted straight into whatever text field is active — no copying back and forth between chat and transcription windows. Everything runs on your own machine: Silero voice-activity detection filters silence first, then Whisper models (Small / Medium / Turbo / Large, GPU acceleration optional) or the CPU-optimised Parakeet V3 transcribe — audio never goes to any cloud. It runs on Windows, macOS and Linux, with CLI flags and a Raycast extension. Listing notes: it is a desktop app, not a web tool; models download once on first use and then everything is offline; Bluetooth-headset microphones on macOS and some Linux desktop setups have known limitations, documented on its site.
Who it's for
Anyone who'd rather not send voice to the cloud but wants to speak instead of type — office and creator users who dictate long messages, meeting notes or code comments.
18btc Crypto Tools Navigator · Our Take
“Listing notes: a desktop app, not a web tool — models download once, then everything stays offline. The hold-to-talk, release-to-paste flow fits any speak-to-text job, and its privacy line is cleaner than any online transcription site's.”
